Sunshine in a Bottle

The figure of the slim grey feline could be hardly be spotted against the jungle background, his dark pelt creating a sufficient camouflage, at least with the canopy's shelter from the glaring moonlight. His worn, ivory paws were silent as he slinked through the undergrowth and down the familiar path. His breath came in short pants, the heat of the day having taken its' toll. That thick pelt, obviously designed for a colder climate, was no help on a warm, tropical island. A cool breeze shifted the palm fronds above him and brought with it relief, distracting him from his thoughts just long enough for him to realize that his destination was within sight. A smile tugged at his white lips and with a nonchalant toss of his bangs, he picked up his pace, padding directly into the entrance without a second thought as to who might have already taken shelter in the drink hut. Stepping inside, he scanned the setting before him briefly, relieved to find the room empty. Padding idly towards the shelves, he observed their contents before selecting his new regular; dark beer, it's rich amber contents sloshing around in the glass bottle. Uncapping the drink, he took a hearty swig before moving to the couch and falling across the cushions. Right now, all he longed for was to lose himself in the alcohols comfort.

I was having account troubles

He tipped the glass to his lips and sipped absent mindedly on the contents, allowing his tail to loop over the opposite arm of the sofa. Images of all that had happened during the past week played over in his mind, blocking out his current surroundings and deafening him to the soft humming playing just outside. The tiny kougresses sudden appearance startled him to say the least, leaving him to sputter and choke on his drink, wiping away the alcohol that had begun to drip down his chin. Looking over his shoulder to face the intruder, in took him nearly a second to recognize the cheery face. "Nyx?" He said, his suprise evident in his tone. Curling the tip of his tail, he forced his white lips into a small smile, offering faux excitement at her arrival. "Heyy, you," he greeted finally, adjusting his position to allow the girl room on the couch if she decided to sit.

Rolling his shoulders in a casual shrug, he raked over her figure with his eyes briefly, their navy blue depths seemingly darker than they had been only days before. "I've seen better days," he replied, his smile fading as a sigh escaped his parted jaws, "but I can't complain." Noticing her refusal to take the seat he offered, he propped his legs back up on the cushions, resuming his earlier position. "What about you? What have you been up to?" He asked, his brows arching in partial curiosity.

He could hear the honesty in her voice, the sympathy, and it tied his stomach in knots. He didn't want her to feel sorry for him, but he didn't have the heart to yell at her. Instead, he only shook his head, his bangs falling across his face. "Not really, it's not important stuff..." His voice faded and he added as an after thought, "Just girl problems." It was at least half of the truth. Isaiah didn't feel like whining about all of the issues he had with his father, or with Xen, or his recent semi-incestual encounter. Offering a second faux smile, he finished off the last few swallows of his drink before sliding off the couch and falling forward in a feline-like stretch. Once he'd stood up again, he looked to Nyx and for the first time, a real grin graced his features. "This place is too dreary. Let's do something exciting." His sudden change of mood was unexpected, but he didn't bother to further explain. He watched the girl before him with an eerie intensity, his ears leaning forward in expectance of her reply.

He tried to absorb some of her childish excitement, straining to push negative thoughts from his head. He wanted to focus on the present. Tossing his bangs out of his line of vision and curling his tail high over his back, he followed her towards the exit. Hopefully something would happen tonight to bring him up out of this hole he'd dug himself. "How does a bonfire and music sound?" He asked, padding up beside Nyx and looking down at her, his grin fading slightly, though the change was unnoticable.

"Sounds GREAT TO ME!" Bustling into the drink hut was Jeremiah, a smirk on his dark features. Why he was out roaming in the middle of night... there was no telling.

His fur was a dark crimson, adorned with several thick black stripes. Eyes were a dark blue, almost black, and sometimes seemed to be soulless. He appeared to be in his late-twenties, his form lean and muscled from years of hard living.

"Isaiah! What the fuck son... thank god I found you here. I was bored STIFF at my house!" He sort of rambling, being overly loud. Those who knew him could easily tell what he had being doing for most of evening. The scent of alcohol was evident.

Startled for the second time tonight, Isaiah fell back a step or two, staring at his father with alarm written all over his expression. Quickly recovering, he ran a tongue over his tousled chest hair nervously before meeting his fathers gaze, somewhat annoyed that he'd made a fool out of himself twice in less than an hour. "Bored? What, you couldn't find any more of my lady friends to fuck?" His tone was good natured, and his smirk afterwards only exagerated that fact. "You really want to hang out with us? Nyx here isn't like Xen, you know..." Unsure of his fathers' reasons, he was sure to make this fact clear. He could smell sharp tang of alcohol on his breath, which meant he couldn't be entirely trusted around the female kind.

"No, I've seemed to run out of your 'lady friends'" Jeremiah smirked and punched Isaiah on the shoulder before turning his gaze to the small kougress before him. Raising an eyebrow, he leaned over to Isaiah and whispered... rather loudly, "SON, I think she's too little. If you know what I mean."

Laughing at his crude joke, he punched his son in the shoulder again. As he did so, he almost fell over, grabbing Isaiah to prop himself up. Leaning against Isaiah as though he wouldn't mind, he turned to Nyx and grinned. "Heeey little lady. Mind if I hang out with you guys?"

Had he been with any other kougress, he would have cracked up at the joke and retorted with one even crasser, but Nyx was like a little sister to him and his father was being awfully inappropriate. Realizing, though, that it was only the alcohol talking, he offered a sheepish smile in repsonse. An unnoticable wince crossed his features briefly as Jeremiah leaned on the shoulder that he'd just punched twice, but he remained where he was, offering him support as he spoke to Nyx. His lips split in an amused smirk at his obvious inebriated state, noting that he would make for an interesting guest in their possible bonfire/dance.

Looking down at Nyx, he mouthed a silent appology upon realizing that both his and his father's words were making her uncomfortable. "Yeah, this is Jeremiah, my dad," he explained, looking from one kougra to the other.

"Yep! This is my son! Don't we look alike? Sexy little devil. Gets all the damn girls if I do say so myself. Just like his old man!" Squishing his face against Isaiahs, he imitated his expression before pulling away and using the couch as a crutch. Noticing the girl's discomfort, he sort of covered his mouth and gave Isaiah a "look." Looking down at Nyx, he sort of shrugged, "Am I making you uncomfortable sweetie?" As if that wasn't going to make her more uncomfortable.

Isaiah couldn't help but laugh at Jeremiah's response. "You are so drunk!" He crowed, as if it wasn't obvious. This certainly was turning out to be a more evenful night than he'd assumed. Watching him stabilize himself on the couch, he frowned, realizing that the group was slowly moving further away from the exit. Mentally shrugging, he told himself that they had all night to do something, and reclined to his haunches, his tail flicking up the settled dust.

ic. Chuckling as he watched his father leave just as quickly as he'd arrived, he turned to Nyx, his amused grin slowly dying. "Ehh, sorry about that. He sure likes his vodka." Although his appology was sincere, he felt as though it wasn't enough to make up for what she'd just witnessed. He knew she probably had never been exposed to those sorts of people before and he felt awful for being the one to thrust her into the real world. Trying to put on a happier front, he gave her a warm smile, jerking his head towards the door. "Now that he's gone, did you want to start that fire?"

ooc: Its late and I have practice in the morning so I'm going to have to call it a night. Be back tomorrow

Nyx shook her head again, this time grinning as she stopped to face him again. Jeremiah's depature was like a breath of fresh air and made her feel a bit silly for acting as she had. "S'all good, really. I just wasn't excep- accep- expecting that," she assured him, sticking her pink tongue out when it failed to pronounce her word properly. "But all these fumes are starting to get to my head I think...Let's do that bonfire thing!" And she paced back to the door, nosing it open and pausing for Isaiah. Behind her wide, smiling features, she struggled for a moment to sort out the last few minutes in her head before giving it up and letting the change of mood take her with it.
